Golden Cowrie at SM City Cebu

After the Sizzlin’ Pepper Steak experience we had during lunch time, we opted to get some Filipino food for dinner. Since we were already in the area, we decided to have our dinner at Golden Cowrie in SM City Cebu. The first time that I ate in Golden Cowrie was about 8-10 years ago at their main branch in Lahug with my family. I was very young then so I really couldn’t remember what Golden Cowrie was like, but I do remember one thing: they use banana leaf as plates.

As soon as we entered the restaurant located at the lower ground floor of SM City Cebu, we were asked to wait since the restaurant was jam-packed. But the waiting didn’t take that long, we were led to our table and we were each given a menu for us to choose our orders. We had a hard time choosing what to order because everything looked delicious!

To start with, we had Chicharon Bulaklak. It was deep-fried just right. It was crispy and very tasty! Chicharon Bulaklak is best if you dip it with highly-spiced vinegar. The Chicharon Bulaklak was supposed to be an appetizer, but what the heck! I paired it with my rice and it was heaven! LOL. And oh, did I mention they serve unlimited rice?

We also had Dinugu-an or pork blood stew. Personally, the taste was okay. I really didn’t enjoy it as much since I like my dinugu-an to have that hint of sourness. But nonetheless, Golden Cowrie’s dinugu-an was just right, but not for my taste though.

Another dish that we ordered was their Lechon Kawali. It was deep-fried just right to make the pork skin really crispy while the meat remains tender. I also like the fact that the fat between the skin and the meat wasn’t very thick. Lechon Kawali is best when you dip it with vinegar and soy sauce or whatever sawsawan of your choice. Condiments are available on the table. You can also request for some calamansi and sili. Well, as they say, no Filipino dining table is complete without sawsawan! ;-)

Since all of our orders were cholesterol-high dishes, we also ordered Sizzling Boneless Bangus. It was a bit dry and it could’ve been better if the belly part of the bangus was fattier (it’s my favorite part of the bangus! *wink*), but even so, it was good!

And the star of our meal was Golden Cowrie’s Sisig. It was really delicious and I loved how they put a generous amount of hot chili peppers. I love my Sisig to be really spicy that is why I enjoyed this sizzling dish very much.

I forgot to take note of the price of every dish because I was too busy eating. LOL. But everything that we ordered, including rice, drinks, and the Taba ng Talangka (not in photo), only cost Php 750+. There were 3 of us so if we split the bill, it would cost more or less Php250/person only. Not bad, eh? :-)

Same reaction with Chyng- wow you're from Dumaguete! :-) I've been there and I found the place really wonderful! Have a lot of fond memories of it. :-) Anyway, tasty-looking food. That sisig sure looks hot. Unlike you I'm such a weakling when it comes to spicy food, haha. :-)

I'm not sure if I have tried this before when I went to Cebu, but the name sounds so familiar! I love dinuguan -- the picture above looks satiating.
